Fascinating island nation of Maldives. In a bid to bring a surge in the tourist footfall to the island nation to 1.5 million next year, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has begun a campaign themed “Visit Maldives Year 2016” starting from the period of June 2015 to June 2016.

The period of the campaign will mark a plethora of exhibitions, festivals and competitions like Maldives Marine Expo 2016, International Surf Event, Whale Shark Day, Maldives International Travel Exhibition, World Travel Awards Gala Event 2016, New Year Show 2015, Maldives Marathon, mega wedding event, free diving at underwater festival, buy and win at airport raffle draw, professional photo contest for locals, grand raffle prize, countdown clock at airport and launch of the timeline of Maldives history at the airport.

Hussein Lirar, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Maldives explained, “India is a premier and a significant tourist market for the island country. The flow of Indian tourists has remained at an all-time high during the current period and has shot up by 17 per cent during the first quarter of 2014. Around 45,587 Indians flew down to the island destination last year recording a growth of 19.9 per cent as compared to 2013. We are eyeing the honeymoon couples and family leisure tourists from India.” The island nation also offers free visaon- arrival to all global tourists that forms an added advantage for Indian travellers.

“The highest number of global tourists touring Maldives is from China,” added Lirar. MMRPC is making an honest effort to spruce up the flight connectivity with Indian metros. As of now, Maldivian Airlines flies out from Chennai to Male while Spice Jet and Sri Lankan Airways provide the best connectivity from New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to Male.
