Winter chill persists in Delhi, fog delays 17 trains

Heavy snowfall is likely to be experienced over the Western Himalayan region with peak intensity.

The national capital and surrounding NCR woke up to a foggy morning on Monday. At about 6 am, 17 trains were running late, 6 trains rescheduled and 2 were cancelled. Mahananda Express, Shridham Express, Mahabodhi Express and Vaishali Express are among the trains that have been rescheduled. A slight chill persists with the minimum temperature for the day to be 8 degree Celsius and maximum to be 19 degree Celsius. The temperature is likely to remain the same over the next two days and there may be a gradual rise.

“Under the influence of a western disturbance, we can expect scattered rainfall in the northwest plains that is Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.  Isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience snowfall. But if we talk about the national capital and NCR, the cold wave conditions have passed and the temperature will gradually rise over the next 4 days”, said Charan Singh, senior scientist at the Indian Meteorological centre.

According to a statement released by the IMD, heavy snowfall is likely over the Western Himalayan region with peak intensity on today. Delhi, however, will enjoy a clear bright day with a slight nip in the air.
