Taj brings luxury to the Andaman Islands
Taj Hotels will make its debut in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands this year, when it opens a new luxury resort on a private beach at Havelock Island, the archipelago’s most popular tourist area.
Scheduled to launch this autumn, the Taj Exotica Resort & Spa Andaman Islands will become one of the only big brand hotels in the Bay of Bengal island chain. Pitched at the highest end of the market, the property will feature 75 villas, including a 743m² presidential villa, plus its own private beach.
The new resort is being designed in the low-rise style of traditional Jarawa huts, reflecting the villages of one of the Andaman tribes.
The decision by Taj to open in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands reflects an upswing in tourism to the remote Indian archipelago; several airlines – most recently Vistara – have launched additional flights to the islands’ capital, Port Blair, in recent months. Havelock Island is accessible from Port Blair via ferry and seaplane.
Taj Exotica Resort & Spa Andaman Islands will join existing Taj Exotica-branded resorts in other key beach destinations including Goa and the Maldives.
