Indian arrivals jump 13% in September

International visitor arrivals to India continue to show double-digit growth.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Tourism, the country welcomed 615,000 overseas visitors in September 2016, up 13.4% compared to the same month last year.

Bangladesh was India’s largest source market during the month, accounting for 20.6% of the total arrivals, followed by the US (11.0%), UK (8.0%), Malaysia (5.0%) and Sri Lanka (4.0%). Australia (3.5%), China (3.4%), Germany (2.8%), Japan (2.8%) and Canada (2.6%) completed the top 10.

Delhi Airport handled 31.0% of inbound visitors, followed by Mumbai Airport (16.3%) and the Haridaspur land border, which links India with Bangladesh. India generated INR117.81 billion (approx. US$1.77bn) in tourism revenues in September 2016, up 13.1% year-on-year.

For the first nine months of 2016, India has now welcomed 6.21 million international visitors and generated INR1.12 trillion in revenues, marking year-on-year growth of 10.5% and 14.5% respectively.
